With the opening of the Automotive Software Campus in Berlin, CARIAD is consolidating its expertise from what was initially seven locations into one central AI campus in Berlin. Around 1.000 experts are working on AI technologies for the software-defined vehicle.
As part of the global CARIAD network, they use artificial intelligence (AI) for software development for Volkswagen Group vehicles worldwide. The spectrum ranges from environment perception for automated driving systems to AI-based voice assistants.
The technology division: New Work – from me to we
Close to Berlin Central Station, a new district called “Europacity” has been developed, comprising residential, commercial and retail spaces. One of the highlights is the Automotive Software Campus for the Volkswagen Group, which was opened by CARIAD in June 2026.
CARIAD is transforming their office space: from traditional structures to flexible new working environments. The aim of the interior design and workplace planning by Eller + Eller Architects for the VW CARIAD headquarters is to create an activity-based working concept that puts the user at the centre and facilitates a wide range of working scenarios. Individual offices and closed rooms give way to team areas. Thanks to the flex-desk principle, the spaces offer diverse and varied working options. A holistic design approach transforms a consistently designed corporate world into desirable individual spaces based on the requirements and needs of CARIAD employees.
Instead of traditional office spaces, flexible group zones are created that can be used by different group sizes and are spacious and versatile enough to work together, develop ideas and visualise concepts.
